Lemongrass

I removed the lemongrass from the black nursery container.

I used some hedge clippers and decided to cut the plant in half.

I made a pretty clean cut.

I decided to plant half in a container and half in the garden.

Here is a close-up of the lemongrass and soil.

Water on the Sage

The water on the sage is from the automatic sprinkler that comes on early in the morning. I got up around sunrise and captured this image. This sage has been in my garden for two years. I plan to divide it this fall.

Early Harvest Corn

I harvested some corn and a jalapeño from my garden today. I added some pork and a red onion.

First, I sautéed the onion and jalapeño in some olive oil. Then, I put them in a bowl temporarily. Next, I browned the pork. Finally, I added the onion and jalapeño back to the pork.

My wife tried the sautéed onion and jalapeño. She said it was really good. I tested it as well. I seasoned it with salt, pepper, and a southwestern spice blend. It was a great meal.

This is the finished painting. I painted a version of this around 2001. This year I revisited it. Then I photographed it and put it on the back-burner. After finishing my last piece I decided to give it another shot.

I took the photo and cut out the figure. I didn't like the original background so I got rid of it. I imported a spray-painted background of my own and layered it.

I imported a homemade texture for the background. The text is digital. All of the figures were spray-painted on canvas. The original dimensions were 12X30 inches.

Fish Finished

Here is the finished artwork. I've really enjoyed making this one. I touched up the black and added some red and blue paint splotches. The color of the fish was changed from silver to red. Finally, I deepened the blue in the middle.

My next piece will probably be based on Our Lady of Fatima which I previously posted about.

More Progress

I've made some progress. The stencils came out fine. I started out with just black, but decided to add some color. Also, I changed the size of the fish in the upper right quadrant. Two fish are blue and green. The other (small) fish is silver with black outlining.

I plan to be finished by the end of the week. It has been fun to work on this piece and I've learned some lessons. Learning is one of the qualities of art that keeps my interest. I'll have it scanned and shrunk to 8.5 x 11 inches to fit into my portfolio. The original size of my canvas in 16 x 20 inches. It's done with acrylic and spray paint.

Our Lady of Fatima

I have a piece of art about Our Lady of Fatima that I should work on next. It's mostly done (80 % or so). I'm using acrylic and spray paint again.

Fish (digital mock up)

I made stencils of the fish based off the file cited below. I'm going to spray paint them later today. I want them to blend better than the mock up.

I found the fish symbol while searching for public domain images. The image was created for the Swedish Transport Service. The image fit my piece so I was happy to find it.

Here is my first version of "Fish". At first there was no color in the background. I added some liquid acrylic to the background. It handles like watercolor.

There is a fish shape near the bottom of the piece that was an accident. I went with it and named the piece after it. I added some silver spray-paint. I've been using spray paint in my work recently and like its qualities.
